Uzumlu.......... a traditional Turkish village.
Nestled at the foot of the surrounding Taurus mountains, Uzumlu village overlooks the stunning valley, where grape vines thrive to supply the wine production which the region is so famous for.
At the heart of Uzumlu is its square where Turkish life goes on as it has for years. Here games of backgammon are played outside the village tea house and local produce is sold at the small market held every Friday.
Although the locals may not speak a great deal of English, a smile goes a long way and you'll be made to feel very welcome by this small but very warm community .
Several restaurants are dotted around the village, catering from traditional Turkish fayre to the more sublime. So whether its a Turkish Pide (pizza) or a roasted sheeps head you fancy, you won't be dissapointed..........and don't be surprised if the entire owners family come out to greet you and even offer to drive you home at the end of the evening !
As with all Turkish communities, you'll no doubt hear the magical sound of muslims being called to prayer several times a day from the local mosque as the calling carries across the valley.
